let the adventure begin

Enjoy wonderful views of the Kalmar Sound from the land castle edge that runs along the western side of the island. You are met by a vast horizon in the east where sea meets sky as far as the eye can see. The barren Alvar, part of Unesco's unique world cultural heritage, attracts hiking, horse riding and cycling. Follow along with a passionate guide who tells you how the vegetation has adapted to cope with the challenging conditions the alvar land provides. Sweden's tallest lighthouse, Långa Jan, stands out on Öland's southernmost tip. Here there are both beautiful hiking trails and one of Europe's best birding areas. In central Öland you will find Mittlandskogen, a leafy and imaginative landscape. Here you travel through a mosaic of deciduous forest and rich cultural heritage with many exciting ancient remains and castles. In the north, Bödaskogen spreads out with rustling pine tops and moss-covered tufts. Follow the inviting hiking trails or explore by bike along old tractor roads. The vast Böda bay with chalky white sand and turquoise shimmering sea is so beautiful that it is beautiful all year round.

the world heritage southern island

The world-unique cultural heritage of Södra Öland's agricultural landscape was designated a world heritage site in 2000 by UNESCO. Lake lands, alvar lands, farmland and the row villages in southern Öland constitute the world heritage. Together, they bear witness to how the land has been used in the same way by man and animal in symbiosis for millennia. This heritage is unique in the world and worth both experiencing and preserving for future generations.
