kalmarsund VIII
Kalmarsund VIII was a car and passenger ferry that operated the route between Färjestaden and Kalmar until 1972. Built in 1963 at the Kalmar shipyard for Ångbåts AB Kalmarsund, she was a reliable ferry until she sailed as the last car ferry on the route. In 2002 she returned to Färjestaden and made regular trips between Kalmar and Färjestaden as well as chartered trips for a few summers.

In Färjestaden there is Öland's first shopping centre, Öland's Market City, which is the natural starting point for a shopping trip here on the island. Here there are well-known shops and larger chains of various kinds, as well as Systembolaget and ICA. In Färjestaden there are also smaller shops such as The business, Shop sun & winds, shop like new, Lotta Sjöberg's ceramics and The Paradise Workshop. Take a break in the cozy harbor with something good to eat or why not take a dip in the sea right next door.
