Ironman means folk festival in Kalmar and Öland. Take part in it too on August 16, 2025. The official IronMan competition takes place on August 16 and involves the participants starting by swimming 3,8 kilometers in the Kalmar Sound, then they cycle 180 kilometers on both streets and country roads, for large parts on Öland to finally finish by running a marathon, which is 42,2 km long. The start and finish takes place in the center of Kalmar, where the atmosphere is always at its best! Along the entire course, residents of Kalmar, islanders and visitors cheer on the fantastic heroes who complete the race. Did you know that large parts of cycling take place in southern Öland?

Be there at the start of the swim in Tullhamnen, where both competitors and spectators gather. Then follow the participants from the Vågbrytarbadet, Ängöbron or the canal shoreline. At the transition area, you can see the athletes switch between swimming, cycling and running.

The cycle route has many good spectator spots along the 180 km. Watch the participants at the hydration station in Färjestaden, both on their way out to Öland and back to the mainland, or in the sea of spectators at the famous roundabout in Kalmar city center before they cycle out to the mainland. Below are tips on stopping times and locations on the island.

at 9.00 - 12.00: Degerhamn, the hill up to route 136

Kalmar city center is the right place for the audience to be during the run. Take a seat at one of the restaurants or get a good view of the course along Kalmar's shopping streets. Another tip you shouldn't miss is to stand at Stortorget where the participants pass three times before they finally get to run into the finish line.

Don't miss the finish line at Stortorget in Kalmar where we cheer on the participants on the "Magic carpet" to finally call them IRONMAN! The first professional usually crosses the finish line around 14.30:15.00–23.20:XNUMX PM and the finish line is then open until XNUMX:XNUMX PM. The last hour before the finish line closes is called Heroes' Hour.

The Öland Bridge has one lane in each direction open to car traffic and a reduced speed limit of 50km/h. On Öland there is very limited traffic in Färjestaden and southwards. Road 136 is open throughout the competition for southbound travel.
