Ekelunda road

Hike in the World Heritage, Ekelundaleden, Ekelunda village

The Ekelundaleden is a 1,7 km bikeable hiking trail that connects the Stora Alvarleden in the south with the Ölandsleden in the north. The trail is marked by small cairns.

The trail offers the varied Alvar landscape with its rich flora and fauna. Grazing animals can be found in the area for large parts of the year.
The trail starts at the parking lot east of Ekelunda village and then goes south to Stora Alvarleden on Frösslunda alvar.
Stora Alvarleden takes you further to Frösslunda village and Resmovägen in the south or west to Karlevi. The Ölandsleden leads north to Dröstorp's deserted village and the village of Skarpa Alby.

Ekelunda village is a typical Öland village located on the northern part of Stora Alvaret. The name Ekelunda indicates that there was oak forest out in the valley at the time the village got its name, perhaps more than 1000 years ago. The village's heyday was
during the Viking Age and along the trail, grave and treasure finds have been found from this time.

Bicycles may need to be led on certain stretches and in heavy rain boots may be appropriate.
