Hike in the World Heritage Site, Bårby Källa

The Bårby Källa hiking trail is a loop south of Möckelmossen. It has the shape of a figure eight and you can choose to walk a shorter (1,8 km) or the slightly longer (6 km) loop.

The trail follows small ridges, limestone outcrops and plateaus through the beautiful landscape. The plants, the birdsong and the stillness in combination with several of the elves' unique environments such as dry and wet meadows, moors, gravel elms, heathlands, limestone ledges as well as plenty of outcrops and karst valleys make this a good place to experience Öland's elves. At a height, just south of the trail crossing, there is a small cairn that glows white and is visible from afar. Here you will find an overgrown almost round, approx. 8 meter stone setting from the Bronze and Iron Ages. Your hike will also take you to the Mittmuren, which runs in a north-south direction across the entire alvar (4 miles long), past an old razed shepherd's hut, to Bårby källa and near an oddly placed wall out in the middle of the plain. It is believed to have been used for the training of cartographers. The trail is marked with cairns and in the parking lot at Möckelmossen there are toilets and informational material about the alvar, its flora and fauna.
