the ice cream & candy round
For many, perhaps the holiday season is the opportunity to enjoy a little extra of life's good and sweet. Öland has several first-class food artisans who produce sweets and ice cream to brighten up your holidays here on our island. Farther up in the north there is locally produced soft ice cream that is sold in the harbor in Byxelkrok, in the Kaffestugan in Böda and in the harbor in Sandvik. The soft ice cream is made from milk from the farm shop at Österbo farm in Dödevi. Italian gelato is also included in the range. Öland's ice cream is a real classic that you can't miss. This "institution" is housed in Borgholm, on the corner of Societetsparken in what was a pharmacy in the last century. Here, ice cream is produced with flavors such as grandma's favorite and champagne sorbet, and on a warm day the long queues roll out onto the pedestrian street. If you fancy locally produced sweets, there is a whole caramel factory in Bredsätra. Here you can also follow the production and in the small museum you can learn all about the history of sugar. You can find world-class chocolate pralines in Färjestaden's harbour. Öland's Chocolate is housed here and the flavors are based on Öland, such as sea salt or sea buckthorn. Their home-made gelato takes clear inspiration from Italy and cools down well after a long day in the sun. At Ms. Frankenstein in Gårdby you will find colorful and creative creations. The chocolate pralines in particular are like little works of art with patterns and beautiful packaging.
