enjoy the sunset

Few experiences surpass being able to take part in a clear and colorful sunset on Öland. The experience is so beautiful that many travel to Öland just to see the sun slowly set. The island offers many beautiful places where you can enjoy the sunset and at the same time look out over Kalmarsund.

We asked our followers on Öland's official Facebook page where they enjoy the sunset best and we received many tips. We list some of the favorites below from north to south. Maybe you'll get tips on where you can enjoy the magical sunset night after night! And of course there are many more places to enjoy the sunset than the ones we've suggested here!

neptunia fields

On Neptuni fields, just north of Byxelkrok, the cobblestone fields spread out and together with the almost completely vegetation-free seawalls create a magical light at sunset.

byroom's raukar

Byrum's raukar is a wonderful place with strange rock formations that also offer a view of Kalmarsund and the mythical island, Blue Maiden. With a sunset in the distance, the place becomes irresistible. 

the stone coast

Along Öland's rocky coast, we get to enjoy breathtaking views and a sunset that can be described as magical. Travel along the entire stone coast or stop in one of the villages and soak up a fairytale experience.

köpingsvik

In Köpingsvik there is a cliff section, Köpings Klint, which offers a fantastic view of Köpingsvik and the sea, if you turn around you will instead be part of blooming pastures and alvar lands.

along the 136th

From Borgholm and southwards, there are many fine views along the 136. Stop at Glöminge or Eriksöre rest area and enjoy Öland's farming landscape and a sparkling strait with the majestic bridge in the background.

the sand mountains

In Sanbergen, west of Stora Frö, the land castle edge is slightly higher, which gives you a good view of the strait. Here there are stairs that take you down to the water if you want to take a dip in the sea while the sun slowly sets.

the great elf

Wherever you are on Stora alvaret, we promise that the sunset will be magical. The flat and barren landscape allows the last rays of the day's sun to shine on the grazing animals and through the low juniper bushes.

albrunn

With the sea so close, Albrunna in southern Öland is surrounded by calm. Stop at the Albrunna rest area and set up your picnic next to the mill and enjoy the last meal of the day with an unbeatable view.
