St. Elavi chapel
In 1969, the church council decided to build a funeral chapel adjacent to the burial site northwest of the city.
Architect Sven Boysen in Kalmar drew up the drawings. Construction firm Claesson and Anderzen in Kalmar was responsible for the construction work. The chapel was built in a modernist style and was named Sankt Elavi chapel after a medieval chapel once located on Kapelludden. The chapel was inaugurated on 7 May 1971 by Bishop Olof Sundby. On the southeast side of the chapel is the bell tower. The church bell is manufactured by Bergholtz Klockgjuteri, Sigtuna.
Nowadays, the chapel is not only used for funeral services, but also for other forms of religious services.
The interior
The interior is characterized by the large chancel window that faces the sea. The altar and the cross are manufactured by Verda träindustri. The baptismal font was designed by architect Leonad Eriksson in Borgholm. The bench furniture is made at Bröderna Färnkvist in Sala.
