Exciting limestone!
Geologist Jan Mikaelsson shows and tells about how Öland was formed millions of years ago in the southern hemisphere and how the islanders have utilized their valuable slate over the centuries.
In Gillberga quarry we get an exciting insight into the history of limestone. In the 12 meter high slopes, where every millimeter represents 1000 years, the stone shows a 500 million year old history. We see traces of the animal life of the past in the deep sea as fossils in the limestone. In the quarry today, activities that the 500-year-old tradition offers take place.
