Salamander reconnaissance in Central Sweden

Join a guided tour of Mittlandsskogen and discover newts in their natural environment. Choose between a daytime lookout where the forest comes to life or a nighttime hike with a headlamp for a more exciting experience.

During the spring, newts gather in forest ponds to prepare for spawning. On a guided hike through the Mittlandsskogen, you can get a unique insight into these small creatures and their lives. With an experienced nature guide, it will be easier to spot the animals and understand their behavior. During the day, you have the opportunity to explore the forest, look for animal tracks and see if the newts have come to life. For those who want to experience the forest in a different way, an evening hike with a headlamp is offered. The sounds of the night become more tangible and you may hear owls in the distance. With a little luck, salamanders can be seen on their journey towards the water. Afterwards, a cozy moment awaits by the fire with a hot drink and freshly baked waffle. Highlights: * Explore the forest ponds and get the opportunity to see newts * Learn to recognize Sweden's two species of salamander * Experience the Mittlandsskogen both during the day and in the dark with a headlamp What is included? Guided hike with an experienced guide Opportunity to observe newts Hot drink and waffle at the night lookout Practical information Regardless of whether you choose a guided tour during the day or evening, we will gather at Mittlandsgården, Törnbottenvägen 68, just outside Algutsrum. From there we will go together to the forest. We recommend warm clothing. Please choose layers with overtrousers in case of rain and wind. On your feet, warm shoes/boots that can withstand wet weather. The ground is flat but somewhat uneven, so it does not work with a stroller/walker. Dogs are welcome if it is OK with the other participants.
