World-class bird watching
Ottenby is one of Sweden's most famous birding locations and attracts ornithologists from all over the world every year. From the birdwatching tower or during one of the guided excursions you can see everything from white-tailed eagles and eiders to rare Arctic waders. The nature reserve collaborates with Ottenby bird station, where ringing and research are conducted to increase knowledge about the movements of migratory birds.

Long Jan and Bird Blue
No trip to southern Öland is complete without a visit to Långe Jan, Sweden's tallest lighthouse. At an impressive 42 metres, the lighthouse has stood here since 1785, guiding sailors along the coast. The name Långe Jan comes from the medieval chapel of St. Johannes (Jan), whose stones were used to build the lighthouse when the chapel was demolished. A stone cross, west of the road between Långe Jan and Ottenby Kungsgård, marks the spot where the chapel once stood.

The lighthouse also houses the popular restaurant Fågel Blå, where you can enjoy a delicious meal with a view of Ottenby's scenic surroundings. Perfect for a break after a day filled with nature experiences!
