Mill row in Störlinge

Mill row in Störlinge

The most common type of mill on Öland is the so-called stump mill with a rotatable mill house. Also called pole mill. These can be seen in Störlinge, among other places.

The seven mills in Störlinge stand in a long row on the country castle just east of the road and are Öland's longest preserved row of mills. The type of mill is the typical Öland stump mill, of which there are still a few hundred examples on the island. South of the village there are two more mills on the land castle, also the typical stump mills. Many windmills have been equipped through local associations. Störlinge village is one of the few villages where most farms still have their mills.
