The coastal road between Byxelkrok and Hagskog
Ancient road environment with continuity from prehistoric times.
The road between Byxelkrok and Hagskog in northwestern Öland is part of the long road that you can follow along the coast. Here the road winds its way through a varied agricultural landscape with grazed alvar fields and deciduous forest. In the southern part, the road runs along the high cliff where you have an impressive view of Kalmarsund and Blå Jungfrun. In close proximity to the road, there are several forest roads that branch off to the east towards Böda kronopark. Along the way there are several cultural and historical monuments. At Toknäs, one of the more important ports on Öland's northwest coast has been located. Here there are several solitary graves far out on the slope or immediately next to the road. Some of the graves have names, Stendansen and Rörstensudden at Hagskog are a couple of examples.
