The Karlovy Stone
The Karlevi stone is Öland's main rune stone and is also the only granite rune stone on Öland. The Karlevi stone has also been named one of Sweden's strangest rune stones.
The engraving on one side is written in six-syllable drottkvade and is the only preserved original skaldestrophe of this verse measure in Sweden.
The translation in this difficult-to-interpret verse measure reads:
The Thrud's tribe of battles, which are the greatest exploits followed - most knew it - lies hidden in this pile. A more faultless battle-powerful Yndil's great land chariot Vidur shall not rule over land in Denmark.
The next inscription reads:
This stone was set after Sibbe the wise, Foldan's son, but his entourage set by the island...
The carving is believed to have been made sometime in the 900th century and was probably erected by Danes on their way home after the battle at Fyrisvallarna a little before the year 1000.
