The limestone temple in Källa
We listen to the stone walls' 1000-year history of pirates and pilgrims, of new Christianity and holy springs.
Källa gamla kyrka is a defensive church from the 1000th century. Here, the limestone walls speak of times when pilgrims came to honor St Olaf, the saint of merchants and sailors. His spring can still be found at the back of the church. But the walls have also protected from pirates and served as a church room in the early Christian era. The church was left to decay for a long time and during the first half of the 1900th century it was called the church of desolation. Nowadays it excites our historical imagination – not least through the old limestone graves with almost weathered markers. Behind the church is the spring, which, like all springs, has its own story to tell.
