Himmelsberga Öland museum
Himmelsberga Öland's museum is the meeting place for Öland's past and present - a place that offers something for all generations.
In 1959 Norrgården was inaugurated at Öland's Museum Himmelsberga. The aim was to save a traditional Öland row village for posterity, in the 1950s they had started demolishing outbuildings and barns on the Öland farms to make room for tractors and larger machines.
Himmelsberga is a double row village, which means that on both sides of the small village street there are barns and that the dwelling house is further into the surrounding farms. In the farms there are houses and environments from the 1700th and 1800th centuries, with furnishings and equipment that belonged to life in the Öland countryside.
Goat goats, goat sheep and Linderöss pigs walk in the pastures. In front of Karl-Olsgården, in addition to the magnificent care tree, there are Gotland rabbits and Öland chickens. Elders grow in orchards and gardens
cultivated plants.
The village of Himmelsberga is part of eastern Öland's cultural landscape and today gives a very genuine and idyllic impression, an oasis for stressed modern people. Here you get to see how life really was for the people who lived here, with a high degree of self-sufficiency, the toil of animals, cooking, washing and farming but also community in work and partying, we can only guess. The environments trigger the imagination, and make us ask questions about our own way of life.
At Himmelsberga there is also a coffee house with traditional coffee, pies and more. There are also recurring art exhibitions and other cultural events. Children's activities are available during high season, including at the old ore site.
