Långe Erik lighthouse - Öland's northern cape
The Långe Erik lighthouse, located on Öland's main ground and northern headland, is a 32-meter-high lighthouse built of limestone. There are 138 steps to the balcony, which is located at a height of about 28 meters.
Long Erik was completed in 1845. The lighthouse was automated in 1976 and after that only a weather observer service was manned on Öland's northern tip.
In the fall of 1991, the large lantern in the lighthouse was extinguished to be replaced by a small lighthouse that is mounted on the lighthouse's balcony.
