Stories of Öland - photographer Marika Ottosson suggests
Worm power
When you turn off towards Äleklinta, it is a must to stop and photograph all these wonderful camels that walk around on "Öland's savannah". Capture their mine game and why not get the perfect picture of the camels at sunset.
Eleklinta
Has a beautiful pebble beach with bathing jetty, cozy little fishing cottages and of course magnificent windmills to photograph with the sea in the background. In the spring, the blue fire also blooms here.
Bridal shower
An old fishing camp with small stone houses, they usually lie boats pulled up on the pebble beach so you can take that classic nice boat picture. Here are big beautiful height differences and the sunset is absolutely magical. If you are here in the autumn, the fog can spread majestically.
Deepvik
If you want to experience turquoise water, you should stay in Djupvik. Here, too, you have a pebble beach with built-up old boats and stone houses. Photograph stones, old rusty boat accessories. A classic picture from this place are the three small stone houses with the wall and the sea in the background - fantastic place!
Sandvik
Are you looking for that feeling of being abroad at home? Here you can experience turquoise water, stone houses, restaurants and mills. Although the places in writing may sound the same, each place is completely unique, different lights, colors and stones. Your camera will get hot!
Here on the beach you will also find an old round stone bunker which is a fun motif to photograph. The harbor and all its boats are unique in Sandvik along the stone coast.
Port of Jordhamn
Probably one of Öland's most beautiful photo spots with. Here you can't miss one of the most iconic pictures on Öland! The hill north of the mill that winds so beautifully in the picture with the rogue mill and the sea. Feel free to play with the depth of field here with some leaves in the foreground and there will be extra feeling in the picture. I have not experienced it myself, but they are a must in the future for me too; Northern Lights! Here you can catch the northern lights, surely it sounds like a dream?
Alvedsjö lodges
Here we have gray fishing sheds in wood with thatched roofs. Blue heather pops up in the sea and a big black old wooden boat on the beach. A perfect photo spot where the sun warms up a little extra if your travel companion wants to have a cup of coffee on the beach benches.
Cape Horn
Here you have big height differences! From the road you get a fantastic view of the entire beach with the blue heather on the horizon. The beach has nice big rocks and the water is turquoise some days. Along the beach you also have large boulders that spread out. Forward with the camera because here you can take really many nice pictures. If you are here at sunset, you can expect to stay for a while. Magically.
Byrum's raukar
Are you on Öland, of course do you want to have rauks with you home in your camera? Do not forget to photograph them from all sides, so you have extra many motives with your home.
Byxelkrok and Neptuni fields
Red small fishing cottages and large boulders that the waves hit. Magical in all seasons! In the spring the blue fire blooms, in the summer you have incomparable sunsets and in the winter the red cottages shine beautifully in the snow.
Högby lighthouse
Almost a bit creepy, but what a view and what a nice lighthouse - a must if you like me are ridiculously fond of lighthouses!
Kapeludden lighthouse
Here you will find a beautiful red lighthouse and ancient monuments. Find fun and different angles on the lighthouse by moving around the ruin. On the east side you can capture nice astro images in the evening.
Össby
Take a photo of the old sauna standing out in the water, a fun photo motif. There is also a white sandy beach and cozy little village - Össby. Well worth a visit!
Long Jan
Of course! I'm not a bird photographer but here you have a place to go around with your camera whether you are photographing birds or not. The lighthouse can be caught from a number of angles. A favorite of mine is to photograph the lighthouse with the small thatched cottages in the foreground. At Långe Jan you can really get magical images!
Eckelsudde
Honestly, who doesn't like seals? If you want to photograph seals, this is the place for you.
Sandbergen
A place my family and I often take a walk at. Everyone likes to walk here, but of course you have packed your camera to take pictures when the family is with and enjoying. Large sand mountains and stunning views. Here you really capture images that make people wonder where you have been - a unique place!
