Eketorpsleden - Hike in the World Heritage

The Eketorpsleden is a 1,6 km long hiking trail on the river west of Eketorps Castle, the southernmost of Öland's ancient castles.

The hiking trail goes in a loop, starting next to the ancient castle. The castle, which has been rebuilt, is strategically located in the middle of Stora alvaret. It runs through pastures and is marked with small cairns. The trail is easy to get to and at the visitor center (open in summer) there is parking, toilets and information.

To think about the current hiking trails in the World Heritage:
- The hiking trails pass over pastures, so be sure to close the gates behind you.
- Dogs must be leashed on pasture and in forest areas during certain parts of the year.
- If you are in a nature reserve, check the rules for the respective nature reserve.
- There are windbreaks along one of the trails in the World Heritage. If you prefer to camp, choose a place that will not disturb others. If camping for more than 1 night, contact the land owner.
- There are a number of ready-made fireplaces, but if you prefer to make a fire in another place, remember that it is not allowed to make a fire directly on the rock face.
- Make sure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the site.
- Also check that there is no temporary fire ban.
- Many of the plants in the Öland flora are protected and may not be picked.
- Hunting and fishing are not included in the right of the public. You can, however, fish with a rod along Öland's coast.
- Leave the animals' young and nests alone.
- Fossils may not be knocked loose, only individual memorial stones may be allowed to be taken.
- Off-road driving with motor vehicles is not permitted.
