Day trip - Meet Öland's nature, culture and history

A proposal for a day trip to experience Öland's nature, culture and history. The trip is about 9 miles long and you will have the opportunity to visit Öland's Museum Himmelsberga, Capellagården and Stora Alvaret.

Öland's Museum Himmelsberga:
Öland's Museum Himmelsberga consists of a double row village, which means that on both sides of the small village street there are rows of barns and that the dwelling house is further into the surrounding farms. In the farms there are houses and environments from the 1700th to the early 1900th century, with furnishings and equipment that belonged to life in the Öland countryside. Landrace animals graze in the paddocks and mowing is carried out in the meadow. In plantations and in gardens, older cultivated plants grow. For interested groups, specially targeted guided tours can be given with a focus on, for example, cultivation, agriculture or gardens and plants at different times.

Price Himmelsberga - Group entrance SEK 60 per person, guided tour SEK 500 per group. Coffee basket SEK 70 (Coffee/tea and bun, soft and hard cake). Lunch SEK 100 (pie, salad, bread and meal drink).

Capellgården:
Capellagården is located in the row village of Vickleby in the world heritage Södra Öland's agricultural landscape. Here, just over 50 years ago, the furniture designer and pedagogue Carl Malmsten founded a school for creative work. Today, Capellagården with its beautiful houses, gardens and cultural environment is a popular destination. Here you can wander around the various garden rooms and plantations. The students' graduation exhibition and shops are open all summer. You can book a guided tour at Capellagården where we tell you about Carl Malmsten and the school and about the history of the place.

Price Capellagården - Capellagården offers coffee with cookies/sandwiches for SEK 60 per person and lunch for SEK 120. Guiding costs SEK 65 per person. If you want to visit the garden on your own, it costs SEK 10 per person for bus groups.

Seriously:
The proposed route is from Ölandsbron north to Glöminge and from there east to Himmelsberga. From Himmelsberga east side south to Stenåsa where you turn west straight across Stora Alvaret. In the middle of that stretch there is a rest area with bus parking, information boards about nature and the World Heritage Södra Öland Cultivation Landscape, and toilets.
In Resmo you drive north to the village of Vickleby and Capellagården. From there it is just over a mile to Öland's bridge. Along the way (which of course is just as well taken in the second order) there are sights and stops such as Kvarnarna in Störlinge, Naturbokhandeln in Stenåsa and Mysinge cemetery. We are happy to help advise you on plans for the entire trip, and good stops along your intended route.
