Böda Backer
Böda slopes are located on both sides of road 136 north of Böda community in northern Öland.
vegetation
On the east side of the road there are high sand dunes and flying sand fields overgrown with pine forest. The forest is old and rough with open clearings and less dense areas. It is the first generation of mature forest that was partly planted after the dunes were set aside to prevent sand escape and partly arose spontaneously. Other forest on the east side consists of older mixed coniferous forests with elements of oak, elm, maple, linden, ash, hazel and willow. To the west of the road, the forest has a different character, here the substrate is calcareous moraine, unlike the sand on the east side.
Plant and bird life
The tree species mix is large and the forest is patchy with bright clearings. Plants you can find in this part of the forest include musk, sedge and toothroot. The entire area has high natural values and has a valuable lichen and mushroom flora with species such as wire bridge clavate, ring lichen and licorice musseron. Birds that can be found in the area include the common crow, nightingale and osprey.
Walking trail
Böda slopes are a popular area for outdoor activities. Here there are opportunities for your own tours along the Bödaleden which runs through the reserve area or one of the smaller trails and exercise tracks. It is close to Bödakusten's sandy beaches and there are plenty of blueberries in particular among the dunes.
